It frames your face and it is the part everyone sees above a jacket. Height, spread and stiffness all change how it reads.

A collar that collapses under a jacket makes an expensive suit look tired.

The shoulder and the yoke

The seam should sit on your shoulder, not past it. This is what stops a shirt looking borrowed, and it is the hardest thing to fix afterwards.

The sleeve and cuff

The cuff should end at the base of your thumb and stay there when you raise your arm. A quarter to half an inch of it should show past a jacket sleeve.

The body

Enough room to sit down and reach without pulling at the buttons, and not so much that it billows when you tuck it in.

What makes a custom dress shirt different?

It is cut from your measurements, so the collar sits where it should, the sleeve ends where your wrist is, and the body follows your shape instead of a size chart's idea of it. Collar, cuff, placket and fit are all yours to choose.

How do I choose a collar?

Mostly by your face and by what you wear it with. A spread collar suits a narrower face and works well with a tie; a point collar flatters a rounder face; a button-down is the relaxed one. If you wear a jacket most days, pick a collar with enough body to stand up on its own.

What shirt fabric works in Florida?

Lightweight cotton with a bit of texture. Poplin is smooth and crisp, oxford is more forgiving, and both beat any synthetic blend for a long humid day. The finer the cotton the more comfortable it feels and the more often it needs pressing.

How many shirts should I order at once?

Most people start with two or three and reorder once they have worn them. Shirts sit against your skin all day in this climate and they are the thing that visibly wears out first, so depth here is worth more than another jacket.

How long does a custom shirt take?

Usually a few weeks. Once your measurements are on file, reordering does not need another fitting at all.
